Performance upgrades for the 2005 Ford Mustang.

Ford pulled out all of the stops for the 2005 Mustang with a completely redesigned body and interior based on the S197 frame that erased all traces of the Fox Body. The new body featured an old-school, cowled upper grille and a larger lower grille. Flared fenders lead into the sharp lines trailing toward the Mustang's rear and are complimented by an interior compartment set rearward for a sporty feel like Mustangs from the first generation. This ''retro-futuristic'' design philosophy also packed more heat under the hood than its SN95 predecessors, with an updated 4.6L SOHC V8 for the GT with three valves, Variable Camshaft Timing technology and Charge Motion Control Valves that pushed its output up to 300 horsepower with 320ft/lbs of torque straight from the factory. The base model used a new 4.0L Cologne V6 with 210 horsepower and 240ft/lbs of torque. The return of raw power and more elegant body to Ford's Mustang brought a massive influx of performance parts and aftermarket accessories, thousands of which are available at Stage 3 Motorsports.

Bolt on engine enhancements can give both the GT and base model V6 some extra advantages on the street or track. Stage 3's most popular aftermarket performance products are cold air intakes. Cold air intakes (CAI) all have the same basic function, though differing slightly in the specifics of their designs. CAIs use high volume filters, insulated inlet tubing and heat shields to help bring in large amounts of cooler charge air for gains of up to 15 horsepower. CAIs are extremely easy to install and are direct replacements for the factory air box. Some cold air systems require custom tuning in order to avoid engine damage and to get the most out of their increased airflow. We strongly recommend taking advantage of Stage 3 Motorsports' Custom Tuning package that will also qualify you for our Loyalty Tunes program where you'll receive free tunes for life on qualified products purchased from Stage 3 Motorsports. Many of our customers also grab a new throttle body while the air intake system is disassembled for the installation of a CAI. High performance throttle bodies have better construction, large diameters and more efficient valve designs than stock that come together to create better airflow into the intake manifold. Most throttle bodies can add up to 10 horsepower onto most applications. GT owners can get more power out their 4.6L V8s by replacing their stock belt pulleys with a set of underdrive pulleys. Underdrive pulleys have smaller diameters and are lighter than stock. These downsized designs reduce drag on the drive belt and allow the engine to place more power at the flywheel. Most underdrive pulleys give the engine back up to 10 horsepower.

After giving their Mustangs some extra horsepower, the majority of Stage 3's customers look toward the exhaust system to get some extra sound and power out of their 2005 GT or V6 Mustang. The S197s use a rear muffle setup that makes upgrading the Mustang's exhaust to a throaty, old-school sound extremely easy by way of an axle-back system. Axle-backs replace the factory mufflers and tips with new tips and new mufflers or full muffler deletes for huge sound gains. Axle-backs give sound, but real power gains for GTs start with an aftermarket mid-pipe. The Mustang's factory h-pipe uses crimped tubing and restrictive catalytic converters that rob the S197 of power. Performance x-pipes or h-pipes use mandrel-bent piping and either high-flow catalytic converters or catalyst deletes to get rid of back pressure. New mid-pipes can add 10 to 20 horsepower depending their design. GT owners can also invest in a set of aftermarket headers to round out their exhaust systems and gain even more power. Short tube headers, often called ''shorty'' headers, are direct replacements for the stock exhaust manifold and have tubing that allows them to attach to the factory mid-pipe. Shorty headers use highly efficient, mandrel-bent tubing for gains of up to 10 horsepower over stock. Long tube headers are massive exhaust outflow pipes that attach to the engine's exhaust ports and run underneath the Mustang to a required shorty mid-pipe from the same brand. Most long tube header/mid-pipe combinations can give the 4.6L V8 an extra 30 horsepower with ease. Some long tube headers and mid-pipes may not meet emissions regulations in your area. Check your local emissions guidelines before ordering.

The heavy S197s have much to gain from comprehensive suspension and handling upgrades, especially in conjunction with modifications that add horsepower and torque. A great performance add-on that not only gives your Mustang better handling, but also gives the car a race-ready look is a set of lowering springs. These types of springs reduce body roll by using a progressive spring rate and by lowering the Mustang's center of gravity. Adding a performance brake kit will allow the most powerful and heavily-modified Mustangs to safely stop in seconds without fade or failure. Stage 3 Motorsports carries brakes systems from brands like Wilwood, ROUSH and Baer that are built for road-racing and other high performance driving applications. Stage 3's preferred tire is the Nitto NT555. The NT555 is a series of ultra-high performance summer tire that have sophisticated designs. Nitto's tires perfectly balance track needs with low noise, vibration and harshness for the daily drive. Contact Stage 3 Motorsports for the latest tire pricing and size availability.

The new S197 body design adapts extremely well to a wide range of exterior body pieces, and a huge market for Mustang body accessories has sprouted around its retro styling. DG Custom Auto has quarter window louvers and aggressive window scoops that come pre-painted to match your Mustang at exceptionally low prices. Stage 3's top-selling Complete ROUSH Fascia kit gives the entire front chassis a new, road-racer look in a direct bolt-on install. ROUSH's fascia has a stylized lower grill that's flanked with extra openings and new fog lights that add new texture and styling cues. If a new fascia isn't enough, then Stage 3 can provide several full body kits and over 60 different wheels that can give your 2005 Mustang and endless variety of looks and styles.

The most efficient way to get serious, seat of your pants horsepower is with a ROUSH supercharger from Stage 3. ROUSH provides two different supercharger configurations that cater to the average street driver or the hardcore racing junkie. The ROUSH M90 is the smallest, cheapest option and boosts the 4.6L V8's total power output to 435hp with 400ft/lbs of torque. ROUSH's R2300 Single Belt Phase 2 supercharger makes the engine produce up to 550hp with 500ft/lbs of torque and is meant for full-fledged drag racing, track applications and the bravest of the brave street drivers. The R2300 system can be successfully pushed up to 650hp, though power levels that high may require a new short block or other internals.
