Performance upgrades for the 2010 Ford Mustang.
The 2010 Mustangs received an exterior facelift to the its S197 body style that gave it sleeker, more refined curves that also reduced drag. Revisions to the rear included redesigned tail lights and a less squared appearance compared to the 2005 to 2009 Mustangs. While the exterior received an upgrade, the engines and other mechanical components were carried over from the 2005 to 2009 S197s. The base model still used the 4.0L Cologne V6 with 210 horsepower. The GT's 4.6L SOHC V8 received a slight bump up to 315 horsepower and 325ft/lbs of torque through the use of the 2009 Bullitt's intake system and revised tuning. The GT500's supercharged 5.4L V8 gains some of the engine and exhaust modifications found on the previous KR editions to bump its total horsepower up to 540hp with 510ft/lbs of torque. Similar engines allowed the majority of the Mustang aftermarket parts and accessories developed over the previous five years to carry over, while the revised body style brought new opportunities for styling and exterior designs. Stage 3 Motorsports has a huge inventory of performance parts and enhancements for the 2010 S197's engine and body that can make it a unique addition to your garage.
Forced-induction systems and other expensive engine gear can get your Mustang serious amounts of extra horsepower, but a few simple bolt-on performance enhancements can give you a generous supply of extra kick with almost no hassles. Cold air intakes are our most popular engine enhancements. Stage 3 carries several different cold air intake (CAI) designs from most major performance brands that are all functionally similar. Most CAI systems use shielded conical air filters and insulated inlet tubing to give the engine massive amounts of cool charge air, providing gains in the 15 horsepower range for the most basic models. A few CAIs increase airflow so much that your engine will require tuning in order to avoid damage and get the most power possible. Stage 3's custom tuning can compensate for most CAIs and will also qualify you for our Loyalty Tunes program that provides you free tunes for life on selected products ordered from Stage 3 Motorsports. The next stop for most of our customers is a new throttle body. Our throttle bodies are made out of high-quality materials and have larger, more efficient valves that increase airflow into the Mustang's intake manifold for horsepower gains up to 10hp. The GT's 4.6L can get an extra 10 horsepower from a set of underdrive pulleys. Aftermarket underdrive pulleys are lighter and have smaller diameters than the stock cast iron pulleys and work by slowing down the rotational speeds of the belt-driven accessories. This slowing effect reduces drag on the belt and gives the engine back up to 10 horsepower.
Our exhaust upgrades for the 2010s give the Mustang back some of its famous muscle car sound, but more importantly, can add plenty of additional horsepower. Stage 3's best selling exhaust equipment by far are axle-back exhausts. Axle-backs use a combination of specially designed tips with performance mufflers or muffler deletes to create a new exhaust note. Small bumps in horsepower and torque can sometimes be seen with axle-backs due to slightly reduced back pressure. The best news for owners of 2010 Mustang is that most of the axle-back kits for 2005 to 2009 Mustangs will also fit on the newer models, though the exhaust tips on the older kits will mount flush with the rear valance instead of sticking out slightly. Anyone looking to gain more serious horsepower should get a new performance x-pipe or h-pipe. Stage 3's aftermarket mid-pipes use improved tubing with high-flow catalytic converters or full catalyst deletes to reduce back pressure and give the engine back horsepower. Mid-pipes can provide 10 to 20 horsepower depending on the presence and type of catalytic converter and other design elements. Getting the most out of the 2010 Mustang's exhaust system requires a set of exhaust headers. Headers come in two varieties and replace the stock exhaust manifold. ''Shorty,'' short tube headers replace the stock manifold and attach to either the stock mid-pipe or any stock-length aftermarket mid-pipe. Shorty headers can produce up to 10 horsepower on their own. Long tube headers run from the engine's exhaust ports to a required short mid-pipe underneath the Mustang. Long tubes have almost no back pressure and improved exhaust scavenging for gains of up to 30 horsepower. Not all headers and mid-pipes meet emissions requirements in some areas. Check your local emissions guidelines before ordering.
After wrapping up their engine and exhaust enhancements, most of Stage 3's customers turn to their handling equipment to make sure their Mustang can control its new power. Excellent handling and stylish, dropped look can be gained with a set of lowering springs. All of our springs lower the Mustang's center of gravity and use more efficient spring rates to reduce body roll, acceleration squat and brake dive for more predictable suspension performance. The stock brakes already under-perform, even more so when the Mustang gets uprated power for use on the track. We here at Stage 3 have several full brake kits from performance brands like Wilwood, ROUSH and Baer. Most of our brake kits include huge pistons, advanced rotors and high-quality pads that are built from the ground up for high speed track applications on heavily-modified sports cars. Nitto NT555 ultra-high performance summer tires are a practical must-have for sporty driving styles. The NT555s have sophisticated tread and inner structure that provides excellent traction for the track without causing noise, vibration and harshness for the daily drive. Contact Stage 3 Motorsports for the latest tire pricing and size availability.
The sharp 2010 facelift continued the S197's overall retro-futuristic theme, but made it even more aggressive and refined. A few excellent body modifications add on the Mustang's styling considerations for an even sportier and mean look. DG Custom Auto's side window scoops and quarter window louvers are Stage 3's most sought after exterior parts. DG's scoops and louvers come pre-painted to match the Mustang's factory paint color and can be installed in only a few minutes using the included double-sided tape. One of the best investments that you can make for your Mustang's appearance is with a ROUSH front fascia. ROUSH's fascia was completely revised for the 2010 model year to fit in with the new body design and styling. The improved fascia has a redesigned lower grill and an extra set of fog lights that gives the whole chassis a unique styling touch and also adds more road presence and unique lines. Transforming your Mustang into something completely original requires one of Stage 3 Motorsport's many full body kits that range from classic to modern and aggressive styling.
Massive horsepower for racing applications, or seat of your pants street driving, means throwing a supercharger on top of the 4.6L SOHC V8 to put down tire-shredding power and torque instantly. Many owners of 2010 Mustangs lost out on the extra power that the 2011 model would later provide, and supplement their cars with the ROUSH M90 supercharger. The M90 has a small, compact design and affordable price that pushes total power output up to 435 horsepower with 400ft/lbs of torque. Some M90s can be pushed up to 500 flywheel horsepower with the right modifications. Owners of 2010 Mustangs destined for the drag strip or race track often look to the M90's larger cousin, the ROUSH TVS 2300 series, especially the Single-Belt, Phase 2 R2300 version. The R2300 can make 550 horsepower with 500ft/lbs of torque directly out of the box and will probably require significant engine overhauls, including short blocks or uprated engine internals.
Despite being a very different type of Mustang when compared to the GT and base model, the GT500's power and handling have some room for improvement with many of the same types of modifications found on its less powerful Mustang brethren. Cold air intakes and Stage 3's custom tuning can give the Shelbys up to a 35 horsepower increase in output and qualify you for our Loyalty Tunes program. Long tube headers eliminate almost all tracs of back pressure in the exhaust system, letting the 5.4L V8 breathe easier for huge power gains. Ford updated the GT500's suspension for the 2010 model year, but a new set of Steeda coilovers perfect the Shelby's handling and can be adjusted to meet nearly any road or track application. |
